Federal and State Tax Relief

How to Free yourself from Delinquent Tax Debt
April 10th, 2017

Is Delinquent Tax Debt causing financial instability? Perhaps you are experiencing Wage Garnishment and Bank Levy, making it a challenge to provide for yourself or your family. Do you have a stack of notices from the IRS that you have shoved into a “Out of Sight, Out of Mind” box? For some reason, Tax Debt tends to get out of control in a very subtle but significant way. Before you know it, years have passed and the problem has become more complicated. Often the tax payer is left in a daze of “how the heck did I get here, and what do I do now?.”
Evaluate your tax case and determine the status with the IRS. The objective is to get your case to a point where Negotiation and Settlement can take place. There’s a lot of planning and evaluating that needs to happen first. Satisfying your Filing Compliance Requirements must be met before the IRS or State will consider stopping a Wage Garnishment or Bank Levy. If you have a long history of delinquent tax filings it is important that you are not filing any returns that do not need to be filed. Also, be careful not to extend your CSED, resurrecting any tax debt that is about to die off.

Once your MINIMUM FILING REQUIREMENT is defined, the returns need to be filed immediately. If you are being garnished or experiencing some other type of financial enforcement by the IRS, the newly completed returns should be coerced thru the IRS red tape, with the intention of achieving a Collections Hold (Wage Garnishment Release, Bank Levy Release, etc.).

If you call the IRS yourself, keep in mind that you are at a distinct disadvantage to the knowledgeable IRS Agent. There are many programs that could be used to solve a delinquent tax liability that includes Tax Forgiveness, Penalty Abatement, and Hardship. Despite having so many options, many people report feeling “bullied” or “led to believe” that the only option is to pay the tax debt in perhaps an overly burdensome monthly payment.
